100th Annual Northern Navajo Nation Fair
The Northern Navajo Fair is the oldest and most traditional Navajo fair on the Navajo Nation. It is held in conjunction with a nine-day ceremony called the Yeiibechei Ceremony where no pictures, cell phones, videos or recordings are allowed. It includes a very long colorful parade with many traditional queens from all over the reservation, as well as other tribes; a free outdoor Indian market that showcases various master Navajo artists who sell exquisite traditional Navajo jewelery, pottery, rugs, paintings, sculptors and other fine Navajo crafts.
The Indian Market is also a great place to listen to traditional Navajo musicians and entertainers, as well as an opportunity to sample a host of savory Navajo culinary dishes. Navajo cowboys and cowgirls also compete for top prize money at an all Indian rodeo. Other events also include a traditional Navajo song and dance competition, an inter-tribal pow wow, exhibits, and much more!
