Navajo Fair Rodeo

Navajo Nation Fair

Celebrate the largest American Indian Fair andRodeo in the Southwest at the 63rd Annual Navajo Nation Fair in Window Rock, Arizona from September 6th through the 13th, 2009.  Established in 1938 to stimulate livestock improvements, the Navajo Nation Fair has since become a world-renowned event that showcases Navajo agriculture, fine arts and & crafts and promotes the preservation of Navajo heritage.  The Fair begins Sunday, September 6th and runs all week, ending Sunday, September 13th.   The Navajo Nation Fair boasts 25 coordinated events that include an All Indian Rodeo, Wild Horse Race, Miss Navajo Nation Pageant, 4-H and FFA Livestock Shows, Carnival Rides, Navajo Fry Bread contests, a 5k Run/Walk and much more.  To view a schedule of the week's events click here.

Don't miss a performance by American Idol contestant and country music superstar, Bucky Covington! He will perform live on September 11th at 9:30 pm. Bucky Covington concert tickets are on sale now at the Parks & Recreation Office in Window Rock, AZ. (Phone: 928.871.6647)

Tickets cost $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for kids and seniors.


While you're in Window Rock for the Navajo Nation Fair, don't forget to visit the Navajo Nation Museum and further explore the history and culture of the Navajo people. 
 
Northern Navajo Fair

Visit the oldest and most traditional fair in the Southwest! This year the Northern Navajo Fair celebrates its 98th year and will take place in Shiprock, New Mexico from October 1-4, 2009. This year the Northern  Navajo Fair features the theme, "A Salute to the Diné" Heritage and will include events such as a rodeo, Pow-Wow, traditional song and dance, parade, carnival and exhibits featuring, arts & crafts, livestock, horticulture, 4-H FFA and home arts and sciences.  The Northern Navajo Fair symbolically represents the change of seasons and the change of performing specific ceremonies.  The Enemy Way Ceremony, often called the Squaw Dance, should now give way to Ye'ii Bi Chei Ceremonies.  The first Ye'ii Bi Chei, or Night Way Ceremony is performed at this Fair and some aspects are open to the public.  For more information, including event schedules and descriptions Click Here!

 

Western Navajo Fair
In October,take part in another Navajo tradition, celebrating the 41st Annual Dine Fair! Held October 15-18, 2009 in Tuba City, Arizona the fair is fun for all ages.  With activities such as a 5K Run/Walk,Pow Wow, Baby Contest, Rodeos, Concerts and a Carnival,to name just a few, there is definitely something for everything.  Come eat authentic Navajo food, watch the parade and join in a Navajo Tradition. While in Tuba City, stop by and explore the Navajo Code Talkers Museum and learn more about the pivotal role the Code Talkers had during World War II.  The Museum showcases actual gear and tools used in battle, victory stories and transcripts of a Code Talker.  Just moments away you can visit another spectacular experience, the Explore Navajo Interactive Museum!   The Museum explains the journey that Navajos take through life and allows visitors a firsthand encounter
