Sheep is Life celebrates sheep, wool, fiber arts, and the Navajo Lifeway with a selection of fee-based workshops and free events for the whole family on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, at the Navajo Preparatory School campus in Farmington, New Mexico.
The 13th Annual Celebration is organized by Diné be’ iiná, Inc. (The Navajo Lifeway), to honor the central role that sheep play in the philosophy and daily life of many traditional and indigenous cultures. All are invited to bring spindles, spinning wheels, wool, yarn, and weavings. Sharing and learning are at the heart of the Celebration.
Celebration highlights include:
· Demonstrations, vendors, food, and fun, Friday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm.
· Workshops on care and management of sheep, goats, and land
· Benefit Banquet by Navajo Chef Walter Whitewater, Saturday, 5:00 p.m.
· Navajo-Churro Sheep and Wool Show, open to all, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
· Navajo Rug Auction, Saturday, 7:00 p.m.
· Intensive workshops in Navajo fiber arts and land management, Tuesday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
