“Be sure you have a good map of the reservation – one that will show the dirt and gravel roads that lead to the heart of the land. You can use a topographic map or buy a reservation map along the way. Fill up the gas tank… as gas stations are sparse. The sale of alcohol on the reservation is prohibited. Dress casually and bring your hiking boots, because trails meander across some of the Navajo and national parks into striking scenery”.
This lake features a few amenities with a store lakeside.
Asaayi (Bowl Canyon) Lake
This developed campground requires an entrance fee as well as camping fees. This area is one of the few lakes with amenities.
Located just south of the Canyon De Chelly Visitor’s Center
Spider Rock Campground & RV Park
You can find this at the end of Canyon De Chelly, near the turnoff to the Spider Rock formation.
Many Farms Lake
Found in the small town of Many Farms approx. 18 miles north of Chinle, AZ
Permits are required for camping and backcountry hiking on designated trails and campgrounds, contact the Navajo Parks & Recreation Office for information navajonationparks.org .
